L.N.E.R. Pacific No.4472 Flying Scotsman is surely the most famous steam locomotive in the world today.
Built by the London and North Eastern Railway company in 1923 at Doncaster.
She was exhibited at The British Empire Exhibition in 1924, for which occasion she was especially named, and spent most of her
long life working the heavy mainline expresses to Scotland and the North from London's Kings Cross.
Withdrawn from service in 1963. On May 1st 1968, 4472 once again hauled a train non-stop from Kings Cross to Edinburgh,
forty years to the day she had steamed out of Kings Cross on the inaugural non-stop run of 'The Flying Scotsman'.
