The original was painted in 1937
this was published after Lowry's death as an unsigned limited edition of 500.
A rather dismal view, showing the smoke, factories, mills, whin which there would be hundreds of people keeping the machines running day and night.
The lake itself does not look particularly inviting for a stroll or an afternoon swim.
These were the days before pollution was taken seriously, and the factory owners were able to do more or less as they wished from an ecological standpoint.
These days, should you walk through these areas, much has been done to change the environment, and make cleaner, along with the planting of trees and grass
